Half the size, but just as reliable: compact VHF receiver for civil air traffic control from Rohde & Schwarz
Rohde & Schwarz has added another member to its latest generation of transceivers for civil and military air traffic control (ATC). The R&S EU4200C is the smallest VHF receiver of the R&S Series 4200, thus helping to significantly reduce integration costs. Yet it offers all the features and characteristics of the radio family. Important functions are software-based, which not only allows flexible, customer-specific configurations but also makes it possible to implement new features by downloading software. Moreover, the radios feature open standard interfaces and offer excellent RF performance.
Rohde & Schwarz is a market leader in ATC radiocommunications. Airports in more than 80 countries already rely on solutions from Rohde & Schwarz for secure ground-to-air communications. The R&S Series 4200 is also being successfully established on the market. The instruments are available as transmitters, receivers, and transceivers. Just two of the radios’ distinguishing characteristics are their compact size and modular design. Large, highly frequented airports impose heightened requirements on radiocommunications systems: To ensure smooth operation, the air-traffic controllers must be able to simultaneously receive and transmit on several communications channels without impairing each other. With a size of 19"/4, the new, compact R&S EU4200C VHF receiver is only half as big as the other members of the family of ATC radios. Thus, four R&S EU4200C instruments can be placed next to each other in a standardized 19" rack.
Due to the exceptional large-signal characteristics, users can be assured of interference-free performance even when numerous units are opeerated close together. Moreover, the radios offer an optimum radio channel range due to the high input sensitivity. Like all other instruments from Rohde & Schwarz, these radios are built in accordance with stringent quality guidelines in development and production. The outcome is high quality and reliability.
Essential functions of the R&S Series 4200 are implemented at the software level. This enables users not only to customize the basic configuration but also to retrieve information relevant to maintenance when and where necessary. New features can be implemented simply by downloading software. This high degree of flexibility makes the radios a cost-effective and future-proof solution. In addition, the R&S Sereis 4200 can handle new digital transmission standards at the air interface and the ground communications link.
Turnkey system solutions can also be created by adding important system components such as antennas, couplers, and filters from Rohde & Schwarz.
