Secure radio for six nations tournament
O2 Airwave will be adopted by the Police Forces in Scotland and Wales to provide secure communications during the Six Nations Rugby Tournament.
Chris Morgan, PITO Regional Service Manager for Airwave said,“Airwave provides a lot of benefit to the police service as a whole. For large events, such as the Six Nations,it provides a level of operational flexibility and security not available in the past, which contributes significantly to more efficient and effective policing.
People attending games can be reassured that the police officers protecting their safety are in turn protected and supported by a leading-edge communications system designed to cope with the communications cannot be scanned or monitored preventing individuals planning on disturbing the tournament and hindering the work of police officers and emergency workers.
Police can also access local and national databases using Airwave and check up on known troublemakers spotted in the crowds, by using the multifunctional handsets that act as a digital radio, mobile phone and data terminal in one. They also have an emergency button should urgent assistance be required.By acting quickly, police can prevent widespread disruption at the game and to the local community.
