ACPO-APA Conference Preview

The ACPO-APA Conference takes place at the end of June and will feature a wide selection of talks, many of which will be of importance and interest to readers of the BAPCO Journal. We highlight just a few of the talks taking place of interest

On the opening day, June 24, the main talk is undoubtedly by the Rt. Hon Jacqui Smith MP, Secretary of State for the Home Department at 13.50 until 14.15 followed by a fifteen-minute Q&A session. Also taking place is a talk by Janet Williams the Deputy Assistant Commission of MPS on ‘E-crime: its technical complexity and how to combat it’ and a talk by Matt Baggot, Chief Constable of Leicestershire, entitled ‘Flannigan: next steps’.

The second day of the conference, Wednesday 25th, sees a series of ‘breakout’ sessions covering a wide range of topics. The 2012 Olympics will be considered, regarding an overview of the planning and preparation that will take place to deliver a safe and secure games. As well as this a talk entitled ‘information assurance – a critical incident in the making’ will consider the importance the police must consider with regards data and the possibility of data loss. Given the recent news stories over the last nine months or so this is a talk with heightened relevance.

Microsoft will also be running a series of seminar sessions in the Liverpool Echo Arena seminar theatre at the ACPO conference. Microsoft and their technology partners will be providing insights into the ‘Microsoft Connected Policing Framework’ including solutions and technologies for policing.

Microsoft will also publish and distribute a new white paper entitled “The Connected Policing Framework” at the event discussing how Microsoft works with technology partners, law enforcement, public safety and justice organisations to create an integrated approach to public safety, e-policing and administration of justice.
