New Autopage software for Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police has introduced a second Autopage email gateway server to help increase its system for maintaining effective and reliable communications.

Autopage specialises in software systems that combines the uses of text messaging and pager messaging into communications and information management systems, therefore improving the effectiveness of organisations with mobile workforces.

The introduction of the new Autopage email gateway system has built on the success of the previous system by providing a source of accurate communication between police officers and members of the public.  In addition to this, the Autopage System has also ensured that major incidents can be dealt with more quickly because casualty bureaus can be set up faster.

The Nortel Call Pilot voicemail system – integrated with the Autopage system – means any member of the public can contact a police officer on a non-emergency number and can leave message in the officers’ voicemail.  If a message is waiting the system will trigger an SMS text to the officers’ mobile phone.

Thames Valley Police also use Autopage to respond to calls from the public in incidents such as motorway accidents, when they use their Casualty Bureau.  Before, the bureau manager had to call individual employees to work in the bureau but they can simply send everyone on their contact list an SMS message, meaning quicker responses.

Telecoms Department Technical Specialist for the Thames Valley Police, Alan Mitchell, said ‘What used to take an hour to make 15 or 20 individual calls can now be done in five to 10 minutes. This has really has speeded things up, and we can now open a casualty bureau within two hours instead of four.”
