Defence and support services company VT Group has signed a contract with Firebuy Limited, on behalf of the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG), to provide capability management for the New Dimension fleet of emergency vehicles and equipment modules.

The New Dimension fleet is available for deployment around England in the event of major incidents and VT was named selected bidder for the programme earlier this month. The 16-year programme, with an option for up to four further years, is a primary outsource worth in excess of £100 million and the service provision will start from October 1.

The New Dimension assets are operated by the 46 Fire and Rescue Services throughout England and comprise more than 500 vehicles and specialist modules for dealing with major emergencies such as floods, terrorist attacks and urban search and rescue for collapsed buildings.

VT will support the vehicles and equipment modules on an availability basis and will also provide related services including logistics, training and communications management. VT Group Chief Executive Paul Lester said, “Working alongside Fire and Rescue Services throughout England, we will be supporting an important part of the country’s civil resilience and homeland security capability. This contract will supplement VT’s growing portfolio in the homeland security sector, which already includes supporting secure communications assets and work related to the CBRN threat. We believe that this is a growing market where our expertise can bring real benefit to the community.”
