Cyfas Systems announce enhancement of VoIP dispatch system

Cyfas Systems, the designers and manufacturers of mission critical communication systems, has launched an enhancement of its VoIP C-Soft radio dispatcher system.

C-Soft Plus is an upgrade to the C-Soft dispatcher, a system that allows the control of traditional PMR radio, TETRA, and telephony on touch-screen consoles.

According to Cyfas Sales Manager Gareth Godfrey, the new software upgrade allows the remote control of Sepura radio mobiles (SMR/G-3500 series) via IP. “C-Soft Plus means that it will now be possible for the multiple radios to be controlled by any number of operators with access to the IP network, without having to have the radio sitting on the desk.”

Another feature of C-Soft Plus is the capability to present the operator with all the talk groups held within the Sepura radio.  And that’s not all, because besides handling Tetra text messages (e.g. “request to speak”), the software also allows operators to initiate and receive point-to-point calls. To identify the calling party, the ISSI number of the radio is displayed on the screen or alternatively a meaningful call sign or name is displayed.

In day-to-day operations, explains Godfrey, having C-Soft Plus allows control rooms to better manage their radio communications. “Within a control room you could have a section of operators dealing with communications on the western side of the county, and another with the southern part. Each section would only manage the radios in their assigned geographic location.” And because the infrastructure is through an IP network and thus allowing the radios to be sited remotely – not necessarily a single location in the HQ – the communications could offer increased resilience.

Godfrey adds that upgrading existing C-Soft installations to the new software is easy as long as the right mobile devices are used, and minimal operator training is required due to the intuitive nature of the system. Godfrey emphasised that although the new enhanced software has been designed especially for Sepura SMR/G-3500 series radios, there is an interface for Motorola MTM700 Tetra radios as well.
