In August Ofcom announced that its senior technologist, William Webb, was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an honour reserved for the UK's highest achievers in the field of science and technology.

The Royal Academy of Engineering describes William Webb as an internationally respected engineer who has had significant influence on the world of mobile radio, leading standardisation processes and wireless implementation strategy in government and industry. He is particularly noted for his experience and ability to apply his skills to the academic, industrial and governmental sectors.
